I am going to use a downloaded version...for now. My professor is working with me to get the article published, and I will need to provide my law school a Binder of Authorities with copies of every cited work. I prefer to have a hard copy to document that I did not alter anything when I downloaded the PDF.

"Extreme physical abuse" only grounds for separation, NOT divorce.
by cedars inforgive me if i'm a bit slow with the title to this thread.
the true absurdity of the cult that robbed me of my intellect for so long is still beginning to dawn on me.. i'm doing more research into domestic violence as part of a response to the notorious "wife beating" article in the feb 2012 watchtower.. i was shocked to find a question from readers in the w75 5/1 p286-288 which basically said that a battered wife would not be scripturally free to divorce her husband.
my first reaction was that this stance must have changed since 1975, but then i dipped into my own memory from serving as an elder, and of course, adultery (including porneia) is given as the only scriptural grounds for divorce down to this day.. please can somebody correct me if i'm wrong, preferably with a reference?

The apostle Paul says that if the wife does depart from her husband she should remain single.
If you believe this is instruction from God then he is the unloving merciless one. If not, why bother worrying about the take on it by any religious group, not just the Dubs. The Catholic Church teaches exactly the same, but goes one step further and says NO DIVORCE ALLOWED.
If you join a club, you agree to follow its rules and guidelines. If you dont like this, then go form your own club.
Divorce a mensa et thoro. Under Roman law, both men and women were free to divorce on any grounds, though there was social pressure not to. THEN, Christianity (Catholics) got involved and made it a religious, instead of a secular, ceremony, and banned divorce. The Catholic's displaced the Teutonic customs, and by the 7th century, church law was marriage law in England, even after the Reformation. The ecclesiastical courts of England, who controlled marriage and divorce, created divorce a mensa et thoro which allowed the parties to separate on grounds of desertion, cruelty, or adultery. They were still considered married, and therefore could not marry anyone else.
The U.S. adopted the practice as evidenced by the laws of the Colonies. South Carolina did not have a general divorce statute until 1949. Hamster has a point. JWs certainly aren't new or alone in this belief.

Is Iran the new Iraq?
by Justitia Themis induring the bush years, i tried to discuss the inaccuracies, errors, and misinterpretations in the bush administration's iraq intelligence that was used to rally the nation and march to war.
but most people's eyes would glaze over and they would mumble some comment about foreign policy being too hard and too time consuming to understand.
as a nation, we failed in our duty to check our leaders, which led to the iraq war, which deleteriously diverted our attention from afghanistan, and has contributed greatly to our financial demise.

During the Bush years, I tried to discuss the inaccuracies, errors, and misinterpretations in the Bush Administration's Iraq intelligence that was used to rally the nation and march to war. But most people's eyes would glaze over and they would mumble some comment about foreign policy being too hard and too time consuming to understand. As a nation, we failed in our duty to check our leaders, which led to the Iraq war, which deleteriously diverted our attention from Afghanistan, and has contributed greatly to our financial demise. I hope many of the OWS people, who stayed home from the Kerry-Bush election because they were "depressed" with Kerry, thereby leaving Bush in office to continue the war, accept their fair share of responsibility for contributing to the recession by their foolish decision to opt-out of the democratic process.
Several months ago, I was speaking with someone, and I voiced concerns over what the current Administration was going to do with all the returning soldiers now that the wars are winding down, especially considering the unemployment situation. Shortly thereafter, the Administration reported that in a move that was incredibly out of character, the Iranians were seeking to assasinate a Saudi Prince. Of course, nations can act out of character, but very little (no) supporting evidence was forthcoming. And now, the nuclear rhetoric is increasing.
I'm becoming a little concerned that we are beginning to repeat the Iraq process all over again with Iran. My hope is that Obama is playing a strategy game. Nevertheless, I'm copying an article from the New Yorker and a critique of the New Yorker article. Most people have the day off. Hopefully, they will not find this information "too hard" or "too long."

How are her motives relevant?
What if this judge, instead of beating his daughter, was cutting deals with drug lords for lesser sentences for their drug carriers in exchange for cash, and the drug lords, upon their arrests, cut a deal with the prosecutor's office for lesser sentences if they testified about the judge? The drug lords clearly have a motive.
Does that make the judge less culpable?

This is the part that has me suspicious. Is he saying the police reports were wrong? If so, I do not believe him.
RUSH: I just say there's quite a disparity here, and the story is out there in The Smoking Gun deals with police reports.

RUSH: Not journalist reports. They deal with actual police reports.

I did a google search, and while I am not fan of Rush Limbaugh, it seems the principal called into his show and provided further information. According to the principal, the police were not called for the kissing.
It seems that this happened at a junior high and that the girl was questioned. During the course of the questioning, she reported a "serious" home incident, and that is what was reported to the police.
But who knows; perhaps the principal is throwing up a smokescreen.
